A practice game called  S-P-L-A-T.

Here is a fun practice game. Kinda like "H-O-R-S-E"  that you played at the street basketball hoop, except you WANT to earn  the letters S-P-L-A-T.  And you earn each letter by winning a rally off of each of the shots below.

S = Splat,
P = Pinch,
L = Line,
A= Angle, ( cross court or wide angle)
T= Ceiling ball

For example, if you win the rally by hitting a pinch kill, you earn a P.  If you hit a wide angle that your opponent tries to rekill and skips, you get an A. If you hit a ceiling ball that your opponent shoots but skips, you earn a T.   Who ever gets all the letters first wins. The fun is knowing what letters your opponent still needs  and then over-covering that shot.   (If you win the rally on a letter you already have, you just serve again.)

Heres some harder variations: You must earn your letters in order; or  try rally scoring, every rally can give the server or returner a letter.

New Ball?

So you just broke a ball and the ref just threw down a  new one. Hmm, if you are serving, its a good time for a high nick lob or an off-speed drive. The cold ball will not bounce exactly the same as the warm one you had just been playing with. Note to self: if you are receiving serve, pay extra attention to the ball's flight path.
